Open Laser Mouse: An upgrade for the Tank Mouse

Published 22.10.2020 - 19:12 by osz

Retro ends for some people where the mouse with a ball is used. But if you don't want to use your Amiga without your beloved tank mouse, we have a new DIY project for you.

Christopher Harris has published his project on GitHub for converting the so-called tank mouse into a mouse with a laser. All you need is an Arduino Nano, an ADNS9800 laser, a matching lens, a hand of electronic components and this project. The project itself contains Gerber files with which a suitable circuit board can be produced. There are two versions of the PCB available, one for THT components and one for SMD components. You will also find a list of the required components in this GitHub repository, the software for the Arduino Nano and a cover for the laser lens that can be printed with a 3D printer. If you are interested, there is also a link to another project to produce a tank mouse with a 3D printer.

The author points out that the project is still in development.

You can find the project's GitHub repository here: https://github.com/chris-jh/OpenLaserMouse
